About Type One Well
Type one diabetes has always been a centerpiece of my identity. I was diagnosed in 2013 at age 11 following a rather traumatic experience in DKA. Following my diagnosis, my parents worked tirelessly to support me as I began to navigate the tremendous change T1D forced upon us. A big part of this entailed making meaning out of my diagnosis. They sent me to camp at the Diabetes Youth Foundation of Indiana’s Camp Until a Cure where I met some of my closest friends, raised money for T1D research through our walk team at Breakthrough T1D (JDRF at the time), and encouraged me to participate in advocacy efforts and research initiatives. Growing up in Indianapolis, I was fortunate to be in close proximity to cutting edge T1D research and development at Eli Lilly. I have many fond memories of my dad taking me to meet with scientists and researchers in our area working on T1D developments and championing my younger brother as he participated in several clinical trials to better understand T1D.
When I graduated with my Master of Social Work from Saint Louis University in 2025, I knew I wanted to continue to serve a the T1D community in some capacity as I entered the field. Throughout college and grad school, I was fortunate enough to work alongside many fellow T1Ds (+ T1D allies) at the Diabetes Youth Foundation of Indiana’s Camp Until a Cure building programs promoting community, diabetes education and FUN. It was at the DYFI that I felt inspired to establish Type One Well, an initiative aimed at building up those with T1D. As someone living with type one, I get it. It is exhausting, confusing, and unfair. But it also builds resilience, connection and empathy.
My goal here at Type One Well is to walk this journey with you. Wether you’ve had T1D for 30 years or you were diagnosed last week, know that I am here for you every step of the way. I specialize in utilizing evidence based practice to best support your mental and emotional needs by honoring your narrative, meeting you where you are and hopefully helping you feel less alone as you navigate life as a diabetic. I work with children, teens, and adults (+ their families) impacted by type one.
